Smith’s Nursery will be holding their second annual Fall Festival on Saturday October 23 from 10:00 am t0 3:00 pm. There will be a pumpkin patch, hay rides, face painting, farm animals, a sweet potato cook off, a costume parade, a cornhole tournament, and much more! The entire family can compete in three legged races, sack races, and other games. Vendors will be on hand offering arts and crafts such as jewelry, cakes, jams, face painting, etc. Admission to the event is $5.00 per person. Plants that Missed the Marketing Push

The Johnston County Nursery Association will be holding a meeting on Tuesday October 26, 2010 at the Johnston County Agricultural Center from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The meeting will feature Assistant Director of the J.C. Raulston Arboretum, Mark Weathington, discussing “Plants that Missed the Marketing Push”. The plants in discussion will be those that are of valuable use in the landscape, but produced in small numbers and little known to the public.

The Johnston County Agricultural Center is located at 2736 NC Hwy 210, Smithfield, NC 27577. The dutch dinner will be provided by Charlie’s BBQ & Grill. We hope to see you there!

Interactive Pesticide Day (March 12: 1:00-3:00 pm)

The North Carolina Cooperative Extension is inviting all applicators to interactive pesticide training on March 12th, 2010 beginning at 1:00 pm in Smithfield, NC. The training will be held at the Johnston County Livestock Arena, 520 County Home Road, Smithfield, NC. County Home Road is about 2 miles West of the Johnston County Ag Center on NC 210 Highway. At this event there will be some hands on activities to help emphasize and enhance skills needed for applying pesticides correctly including; reviewing software for wind prediction, drift management, sprayer calibration, and PPE. The training will provide 2 credit hours are available for pesticide applicators in categories A, B, G, H, I, L, N, O, D, X.

Hands on Scouting Techniques & Weed Identification Workshop

This best management practices workshop is designed with landscapers, sod growers, nurserymen and other horticultural professionals in mind. Anyone needing to brush up on their scouting techniques or ability to identify and control weeds is encouraged to attend at the Johnston County Agricultural Center. The cost of the program is $15.00, which includes a guidebook and other scouting materials. Two hours of pesticide credit has been applied for in the following categories: D, H, L, N, O and X.
